Racin'Paper
Imagine you are driving a wad of paper, powered by a wind-up rubber band.
Hold space to wind up, but listen carefully to avoid overwinding or else you'll snap the rubber band! Made for round 2 of the 2024 GDKO jam, where the theme was to make a game where sound is essential. Therefore, keeping audio on is encouraged.
Controls:
- Steering: left/right or a/d or left stick
- Windup/brake: space or B button (controller)
Q&A
- Q: Did I think the gamjam deadline was 1 day later at 10pm the night before?
- A: Yes, yes I did
- Q: Did I scramble to implement the entire racing checkpoint/win/countdown mechanic between 10pm and 1am the night before?
- A: Yes, yes I did
- Q: What is the purpose of earning money in this game?
- A: See answers 1-2 above, along with the tidbit that I intended you to be able to upgrade the racetrack, car, and even open new levels by spending paper
- Q: Why is there only level?
- A: See answers 1-2 above. If you vote for this game, expect track editing and more levels to come :D
- Q: Why is the driving all sliding around and easily tipping?
- A: How do you expect the handling of a wad of paper to be?

Loved the idea of it, felt it would have been cool if the car moved for a little longer each time too.
The paper physics for the car were really cool as well as the overall look.
Thanks for giving it a play! Yeah I definitely am thinking of revisiting this project one day, really seemed to resonate with a lot of people and it’s just plain fun to slide around in a paper world :)
A very cool idea, I really like the aesthetic!
Thanks for giving it a try! It’s been in the back of my mind to revisit this to make an actual fuller game out with the art style, been thinking some kind of blend between a track creator and mini racing game
Really interesting mechanic and impressive artwork once again!
I love the art of the game!
Thank you, glad you like the aesthetic!
