Jam status

As I ultimately only had time on Saturday and Sunday morning, there's not a whole lot there - still, I hope you enjoy your time clicking some buttons and watching small cars whizz around. It does technically work on mobile as well, but textures won't load so all you can see are little wheel hubs. Your ears deceive you not: no audio.

I'll likely make some small updates after the initial rating period.

Overview

You are the head of the Loopdale Department of Transit (LDOT), and you are tasked with ensuring the city can support and attract more residents by expanding, repairing, and securing funding for its crumbling road infrastructure - most famously known for "The Loop". Not to be confused with Chicago's train system, this is a highway loop.

Inspired by tower defense games mixed with a bit of idle gaming, put on your infrastructure planning hat and start building those roads!

Instructions

Get the highest score by lasting as long as many days  as you can while growing the number of residents. Final score is days * resident count.

Objectives

  • Projects: Initiate infrastructure projects, which cost time and money and have a variety of outcomes
  • Approval Rating: Don't let it reach zero, otherwise you'll be booted out of office! (aka game over). Some projects or road features will have immediate or gradual rates of declining your approval rating
  • Earn money: You must secure funds for your infrastructure initiatives. Plan ahead - any project that runs out of funds will go on pause - but the negative impacts (ie lowering your Approval Rating) will continue each day that construction is in progress!
  • Attract residents: Trying to lower traffic congestion by expanding your road network? Too bad - but thanks to the concepts of induced demand, you'll at least end up with more residents under your jurisdiction. More people can mean more money earned - but also a faster drain on your approval rating.

Controls:

  • Supports web on desktop and mobile. You can interactive with everything by clicking/tapping, some actions rely on hold+drag of your mouse or finger.

Would be great to see some more mechanics added to this, really great work for a quick turnaround.

Thanks for giving it a try! Yeah, there’s definitely a vision that deserves the light of day, someday
